It’s been a long while since we featured a Dumbass Of The Day… but we’ve got a good one for you today. We’re all glad it’s now EX-Nurse Creepy… What does a guy who manages a business that’s lost money every year get when he goes into salary negotiations? How about a $51,000 raise and a $51,000 bonus?! South Boston/Halifax County’s The Prizery got a no-interest $60,000 loan last year from Halifax County. It’s time to repay the loan and it looks like The Prizery doesn’t have the money. WOW! Didn’t see that one coming… Let’s take a look at the upcoming 14th District House of Delegates race. We’re got Danville’s Danny Marshall, a long-time incumbent, facing Danville’s Vice-Mayor Gary Miller. There’s also comic relief in the race but we’ll get to that later… A Charlotte, NC man tried to rob a convenience store last week. This Bucket-O-Irony story only goes downhill and more bizarre from there, folks. …on this Greensboro News & Record story where the “Comments have been disabled.” You’ll soon see why. Today, we’re going to do something to the local race pimping community that rarely happens. We’re going to look back at a “developing situation” that they showcased and see what was accomplished. It’s time to hop into the SouthsideCentral Time Machine. Travis Hackworth has got an idea on how merge two problems into one solution… … it just might be. We’ll be watching this case closely as it develops. (We actually may be reading about it soon, since the Register & Bee reads SouthsideCentral) In other news… playground equipment doesn’t usually spontaneously combust. … well, so far that I’ve ever seen. I’m sadly sure there will be some that top this one. There’s a reason that there’s no byline on this “story”, folks. We touched on this in Saturday’s “Thumbs!” article and we got slammed with stories of people who have gotten sick during this mold problem timeframe at Halifax County High School… UPDATE #1: I’ve changed some comments below to reflect reading a R&B article about Silas Crews. Let’s keep the SouthsideCentral election theme going and take a look at the race for Sheriff in the City of Danville… Editor’s Note: SouthsideCentral is proud to welcome Travis Hackworth as a contributor to the website. Travis is a history major (from Averett) and has a Master’s degree (from American Military University) . I’ve been very impressed with Travis’ in-depth knowledge and research of Danville’s history and I look forward to him writing more articles here at SouthsideCentral. In his first article, Travis starts with his thoughts on one possible improvement for Downtown Danville. It’s election season and we’re going to get back into what established SouthsideCentral’s reputation… the political scene. Let’s get started by analyzing the upcoming election for the unexpired portion of former Halifax County Commonwealth’s Attorney Kim White’s term… Excuse us while we whip out our “Thumbs!”… I finally got the time to try Phi-lly Cheese Steaks & Things. It was very well worth the wait. Awesome food! If you type in “Web Parts” and see what autocorrect tries to suggest for you, you get “Wet Farts” way down the list. Well, that’s close enough of a description of the company for me. Our #2 entry on the “Biggest Job Announcement Busts” series of articles is making a strong move to take over the top spot… We’re up to the biggest two Job Busts in the area. We’ve covered a bunch of them in Part #1 and Part #2 but it’s time to finish the list and find out Who’s #1! Let’s start off with a #2 that almost made the top of the list… Continuing the saga from Part #1… We don’t stop until we hit the top! Let’s take a look at #5, #4 and #3 on the list! SouthsideCentral has been working on a countdown of the biggest job busts that have been announced in the Southside Region in the last few years. I know I’ve missed a lot of them, but I’ve got eight of them all snarked up ready to go. Let’s get it started with #8, #7 and #6… SouthsideCentral is heading to Danville’s Festival In The Park and we’ll be posting our observations here. Keep checking in for the latest… Danville’s Knights of Columbus service organization did it again and made the 2013 Danville Wine Festival the biggest and best of them all. We’ve got a lot of photos for you to see what happened… |
