Editor’s Note: This was originally reported as a hit-and-run but we have retracted that part of the story. A Pittsylvania County woman was killed around 11 AM on Saturday morning after being hit by a car on Riverside Drive. And the answer is “Three words used to describe James Snead, Coy Harville and Tim Barber”. Along with Jerry Hagerman, those three idiots fired Pittsylvania County Economic Development Director Ken Bowman for absolutely no legitimate reason at all. Although it’s just a seven-month term until the seat is filled in a general election, SouthsideCentral believes that Susan Granger is the strongest candidate for the vacant Ward D seat on Halifax Town Council. Besides that, she’s my sister! Danville’s Piedmont Mall is going to become Danville’s Danville Mall. Let’s take a look at what this transformation will be… Another restaurant robbery in the Danville area… Wake up, Southside! There’s a crowded field for the 2013 Lieutenant Governor race. Seriously, folks… try and get excited about this race, ok? If I can semi-pretend to be excited enough to write this article, you can at least pretend to care about the candidates. Overnight, Danville police are reporting two armed robberies of convenience stores. That also reminded me of one other attempted robbery that happened last year in the same area, so let’s look at what happened last night and then we’ll get a reminder of what happened last year… Lots of crazy & sad things going on in the SouthsideCentral region during the holidays. Let’s get to what you haven’t heard about in the other local media… When SouthsideCentral makes a mistake, I will own up to that mistake. I will issue a retraction & apologize to all parties involved… and for the first time in SouthsideCentral history, I’m doing that tonight. … because you know that word could have been OK. Not. Things are getting hot in the Halifax County School System, and it’s only partially because of a document bonfire behind Meadville Elementary School… Some media people just can’t take any criticism… My heart is heavy tonight as I mourn the death of one of the smartest and most fun political strategists that I’ve ever met. You just bought a large mall that’s seen better times in a city with 20+% unemployment, so what do you do? That’s right… you kick out one of your anchor stores that’s been there since the beginning. Wait, what?! I hate partisanship and have no problem calling it out. This week, Danville City C0uncilman Fred Shanks got ambushed with a biased comment/question that’s so bad that I’ve got to feature it here. If you missed this year’s version of Eden (NC)’s RiverFest, you missed one of the best fall festivals in the area. Let’s break in down in the “Random Thoughts” format… Lots of people (including me at times) think that Downtown Danville is dead. It’s not, and events like tonight’s Block Party proves it. Here’s some random thoughts about it… Let’s get back to the political side of SouthsideCentral with a look at the race for the 5th District House of Representatives seat… If you stay at home this weekend, you’ve got nobody to blame but yourself. We’ve got some Thumbs! and they’re ready to go… Oopsie. I didn’t punctuate that headline correctly so I’ll try again. “Look at the fat, Halifax police officer!” If you’re going to use a biased article written by a member of a group that has a track record for inflammatory language, you should at least disclose who wrote the article. When Tom Perriello returned to Southside VA earlier this week (note that he didn’t make it to Danville), I was asked what happened to the major & minor players that participated in the 2010 election. That’s a good question and in the typical SouthsideCentral format, let’s take a fun look at the first article in a new feature series…Where Are They Now? We used to use our Thumbs! often but we haven’t lately. It’s time to send them UP! … or DOWN!. What do you get when you combine gameshows and breast implants?
